ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how mileage accumulation rate information can be used to arrive at hazard function estimates for hard failures. Section 4.1 provides the hazard function with the risk set adjusted for vehicles that move out of the warranty mileage limit. Section 4.2 gives a method for modeling mileage accumulation rates in the vehicle population. Section 4.3 describes a four-step methodology to estimate the hazard rates. Section 4.4 illustrates the use of the four-step methodology with an application example.
