ABSTRACT

Wearable computing can provide the solution to a number of needs over the entire spectrum of healthcare delivery, both for personal (or patient) and user (physician or healthcare provider) applications. For patient or personal requirements an arbitrary taxonomy for uses would include prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. For prevention, the wearing of smart clothing and accessories that contain noninvasive microsensors can continuously monitor and updated information of a person, the medication status of a patient, or the amount of physical stress of an athlete. (The term athlete will be used to encompass the entire spectrum of athletic activity, from simple individual health and fitness programs, to amateur “week-end warriors,” to professional athletes). The following examples illustrate these three potential uses.
