ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to acquaint the reader with the various components of revolver and semiautomatic handguns and their mechanics of operation, including variations in their design and mechanics. Particular emphasis is given to those aspects of handgun design that can induce human error. In describing the design and mechanics of handguns, human factors/ergonomics safety concerns are highlighted in bold type. In addition, major human factors/ergonomics safety design issues are summarized at the end of the chapter.
