ABSTRACT

For the short life of “modern” medical history, treatment of wounds in general and diabetic foot wounds specifically has been identified as a branch of therapeutics that is decidedly unappealing and lacking in merit. This has changed in recent years, as is clearly illustrated by works such as this text. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss and identify specific treatments for active wounds and potential therapies for prevention. To do this, we will revisit the pathogenesis of wounds of the diabetic foot and then specifically identify intervention strategies to treat and prevent wounds.
