For the practice of manual therapy, certain basic equipment is necessary:

• Examining/treatment table (Fig. 63.1 and Fig. 63.3) • Stool with crossbars (Fig. 63.2) • Firm pillow for patient comfort • Two or three small firm bolsters that can be replaced

by terry towels that can be folded or rolled if necessary • For certain techniques, a wide belt (5

In the following chapters, we describe in detail, region by region, the techniques for soft tissue mobilization, stretching (when possible), and manipulation. Since numerous manipulative techniques are possible, we concentrate only on the indispensable ones that include seven basic techniques and seven accessory techniques.
