In Chapter 5, we discussed design and analysis for the strengthening of conventionally reinforced concrete beams by wrapping them with FRP fabrics. We shall refer to them as
externally reinforced beams
; those beams were (internally) reinforced with steel reinforcement. In this chapter, we shall discuss the design and analysis of concrete beams internally reinforced with FRP bars instead of steel reinforcing bars. Such beams are often referred to as
internally FRP-reinforced beams
