ABSTRACT

Control systems theory, or what is called modern control systems theory today, can be traced back to the age of World War II, or even earlier, when the design, analysis, and synthesis of servomechanisms were essential in the manufacturing of electromechanical systems. The development of control systems theory has since gone through an evolutionary process, starting from some basic, simplistic, frequency-domain analysis for single-input singleoutput (SISO) linear control systems, and generalized to a mathematically sophisticated modern theory of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) linear or nonlinear systems described by differential and/or difference equations.
