ABSTRACT

In the analysis of Example 1.2.3 (Psychological distress) in Chapter 2 (see Sections 2.2, 2.3 and 2.6), we assumed that each psychological distress score was independent of all other scores in the same dataset. More specifically, we assumed that the scores computed for each student on two different occasions were independent of each other. A more realistic assumption would be that the two psychological distress scores observed on each student are, in some way, dependent upon each other. In this chapter, we develop linear models which will allow us to take into account this dependence between observations on the same individual.
