ABSTRACT

Stormwater ordinances and regulations are a basic tool or method available to local governments for the control and management of urban drainage and flood control problems. Specifically, ordinances or regulations can be used for floodplain management, on-site detention and retention, erosion and sediment control, development regulation, and water quality control and enhancement. There is a difference between ordinances, resolutions, regulations, policies, etc. However, they are considered together in this chapter because the implementation and application of each is often similar. There are a number of regulatory drivers and resulting ordinance types used in municipalities throughout the country.
