ABSTRACT

Colloidal dispersions are those having particles or drops with at least one dimension greater than about 1 nm but less than about 1 μm. These systems are classified as emulsions when a liquid phase is dispersed in a second liquid, suspensions when a solid phase is dispersed in a liquid medium, foams when a gas is dispersed in a liquid, or aerosols when liquid droplets or solid particles are dispersed in gas. Other combinations are less common.
