ABSTRACT

Throughout the white papers on food safety the guiding principle is that food safety policies should be based on an all-inclusive, integrated approach throughout the whole food chain, across all food sectors, among the member states, outside and inside the European Union, in international and E.U. decision-making forums, and at all stages of the policymaking cycle (Domenech, Escriche, and Martorell, 2007). Today’s E.U. policy is to implement improved food quality and safety. The European Union’s rst priority is quality and not quantity. The White Paper on Food Safety, therefore, proposes a series of measures for the production of safe foods (Drosinos, Mataragas, and Metaxopoulos, 2005).
