Dryland salinity refers to human-induced salinization of the landscape in nonirrigated areas. Human-induced salinity is recognized as a major land degradation problem in rain-fed farmlands of many arid and semiarid regions of the world, including the Great Plains of North America, Africa, South America, China, India, Australia, and the Middle East (Ghassemi et al., 1995; Rengasamy, 2006).
