ABSTRACT
While risk assessment is broadly applicable to environmental decision making, other sorts of
assessments and decision tools are more appropriate or more commonly employed in
certain situations. Some apparent alternatives are actually complementary to risk assessment.
The relationships of some of these alternatives to ecological risk assessment are discussed in
this chap ter. Assessm ents based on eco logical epidemio logy are discus sed in Chapt er 4.
