ABSTRACT

When performing remedial investigations, a number of different types of investigation-derived waste (IDW) will be generated. This includes a variety of wastes generated from fi eld investigations such as drilling, sampling, decontamination, and other activities associated with defi ning the nature and extent of contamination. A few examples of waste materials generated by these types of activities include:

IDW does not include wastes that are generated from the removal or displacement of environmental media, or debris as a result of remediation activities. Rather, these wastes are referred to as remediation wastes and are regulated separately.
