Answer: (c)Althoughtheureterreceives neurologic input from numerous sources, spontaneous electrical activity initiated by the pacemaker cells appears to be the dominant control necessary for providing electrical activity and inducing coordinated peristaltic muscular activity. Evidence to support this contention includes the persistence of peristalsis after renal transplantation or denervation. Propagation of electrical activity proceeds through tight areas of cell-to-cell contact termed intermediate junctions.
