Answer: (e) Most patients with a retrocaval ureter are asymptomatic, but some present with obstructive symptoms. The retrocaval ureter is almost always on the right and is displaced medially most often at the L3 level. The persistence of the sub cardinal vein results in the development of the retrocaval ureter.
