ABSTRACT
The standard unit for measuring the quantity of ionizing radiation is the roentgen (R). The roentgen is defined as a radiation flux that will produce 2.08 x 109 ion pairs per 0.001293 g (i.e., 1 cm3) of dry air at standard temperature and pressure. This number of ion pairs is equivalent to an energy of 84 erg.
