ABSTRACT

A European OEM executive claimed that in “the next 10 years, we will experience more change than in the 50 years before” (Rishi et al. 2008). According to an automotive study, the global infrastructure and changes in the workforce worldwide will set new challenges for the industries. A ow of technological innovations will be aimed not only at the enhancement of system performance but also at better care of the user, providing personally oriented information and assistance as outlined in the i2010 Intelligent Car Initiative (Europe’s Information Society Thematic Portal 2010). Individualization, adaptation, guidance, and assistance in problem solving are just examples of what “intelligent” technologies promise for their customers in 2020.
