ABSTRACT

Social and economic changes shaping societies of developed countries in the 21st century are closely connected with common use of computer and multimedia technologies in communication processes. The economy that is created in these conditions is called a knowledge-based economy, and the society that builds it is called an information society. These conditions pose a new challenge to both the teacher and the school. One of the roles of a modern school is to prepare young people for life in an information society, which means that they need skills in gathering, processing, and using information with the help of computer techniques. Fast development of information systems and increasing efciency of computer networks and hardware caused information to change into a multimedia format. This means that now information is available, for example, as a text, sound, graphics, animation, video recording, or a combination of elements saved in different formats.
