ABSTRACT

Whilst the fundamentals of cardiology remain largely unchanged, there has been recent rapid advancement in the understanding of underlying mechanisms of cardiac disorders. This particularly applies to cardiac arrhythmias and to cardiomyopathies, aiding recognition of those at risk. The rate of advancement, particularly of the genetic basis of these conditions, has resulted, since the previous edition of this text book, in the appointment in many of the larger cardiac centres of Cardiologists with a speciality interest of ‘Inherited Cardiac Disease’.
