ABSTRACT

Of interest for the medical physics profession is the technical committee for “Electrical Equipment in Medical Practice” and, in particular, the subcommittees “SC62B-Diagnostic Imaging Equipment” and “SC62C-Equipment for Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Dosimetry.” For example, the latter group has published recommendations and guidelines on simulators, linear accelerators, and record and verify systems. Guidance on DICOM RT objects and treatment planning systems are included in about 25 publications. It is also important to note that the committees of the IEC work in close collaboration with such organizations as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA 2000, 2004), ICRP (2000), ICRU, and so on. e reports are reviewed regularly and amendments and/or new editions are released.
