ABSTRACT

One of the principal requirements for a safe and eective radiotherapy service is sucient capacity, in terms of both sta and equipment, to meet the clinical need. Understang and overworked machines have been cited as contributory factors in a number of incidents (Furlow 2009). In many countries, investment in radiotherapy decreased through the later years of the twentieth century, in part due to funding being diverted to systemic and novel therapies, resulting in under provision of radiotherapy capacity.
