ABSTRACT

Together with the development of the role of medical physics, there is an ongoing eort to accept medical physics as a profession and scientic discipline. is has been articulated informally on a number of occasions (e.g., Ervin Podgorsak, AAPM Newsletter, November/December 2007) and more formally through the Malaga Declaration from the European Federation of Medical Physics (EFOMP 2006), in which the EFOMP and the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP) have lobbied for medical physics to become a regulated profession in all member states in response to the EU Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualications.
