ABSTRACT

Finite resources require that, in every radiotherapy department, the quality of services provided must be balanced against the number of services provided. Hospital administrators look at the

required sta from a dierent perspective than clinical practitioners and scientists. An approach from detailed to generalization oen leads to a number of posts (also known as positions) that are not acceptable from an economic point of view. Another approach is to survey representative departments and, based on that survey, draw a stang model. Such studies (Slotman et al. 2005) usually show a large diversity in gures but reveal a common tendency that the more sophisticated are the procedures used, the more numerous are the sta needed in all or in certain categories (Miles et al. 2005; Budiharto et al. 2008). Indicators comprising the denominator and desired value of quantied activity allow one to evaluate sta performance and predict future needs (Cionini et al. 2007; Holmberg and McClean 2003).
