ABSTRACT

Analysis of organizations has shown that a large proportion of major change initiatives, including the successful implementation of new technologies or procedures, fail to realize their intended gains, most probably due to lack of human acceptance and adoption of a change. e successful implementation of new technologies or processes depends on the availability of (1) clear goal statements, (2) available expertise and skills, (3) proper incentives, (4) sucient resources, and (5) an action plan (Kotter 1995). A team that is lacking clear goals and aims will quickly become confused, whereas lack of skills or resources will lead to anxiety and frustration. Similarly, lack of motivation and empowerment will slow down progress considerably, whereas the lack of an action plan will likely abort the project altogether. Still, in the clinical eld, the accomplishment of a successful commissioning and QA plan may evolve dierently from the action plan as surprises may arise.
