ABSTRACT

R adiation control authorities worldwide have always been concerned with safe use and handling of radioactive materials and radiation-generating devices because of their wide applications in medical, industrial, and research environments as well as in power generation. In the last 100 years, literally hundreds of radiation accidents have been documented. Many more have occurred, but without formal documentation. In terms of ability to cause physical damage or threat to human health and safety, radiation accidents have a wide range of consequences, from minimal to catastrophic.
