ABSTRACT

Although we have much to learn about how and why children get cancer, one thing we know for sure is that it is not because of excessive smoking and drinking . Environmental factors are suspected in some cancers but have not yet been proven as a cause . Childhood cancer is usually not inherited, although there are some well-studied syndromes such as neurofibromatosis and Li-Fraumeni, which predisposes to cancer, and some cancers, such as retinoblastoma, that are often heritable .
