developed to dynamically image these structures down to femtosecond temporal and nanoscale spatial resolution. It turns out that this cannot be done in full generality; one rather has to con ne the discussion to few elementary cases that give rst physical insight into the complex phenomena that are still under investigation in numerous research groups. e present survey attempts to lead the reader in an easy way to the frontiers of what is known today on ultrafast magnetization dynamics at the nanoscale.
