ABSTRACT

Nanosized allotropes of inorganic compounds demonstrate a high variety of their morphology from small nanoplatelets, nanostripes, and nanorods, which may be understood as cutouts of the bulk modi cations up to larger hollow nanotubes, fullerene-like particles, and fullerenes with a polymorphic atomistic structure, which deviates from that of the bulk state. e small particles are characterized by a large amount of chemically active atoms with dangling bonds, whereas the atoms in the fullerenic and tubular species possessing a cavity are coordinatively saturated and are more inert.
