Gold, a noble metal, which is also considered to be very precious, has been the desire of people for millennia. ere is a popular saying about it: “Who has the gold has the power.” Due to its remarkable properties, gold stands out as a very important metal used as money and in sculpturing for very many centuries, and continues today as a favorite for jewelry, such as the wedding rings that some of us use. Legend has it that gold was the goal of alchemists who worked very hard in their attempt to transmute other lesser-valued metals, such as lead, into gold. All this has to do with the important properties of bulk gold: it is inert and does not, unlike other metals, react easily with other elements, in particular with oxygen, which prevents its oxidation. It is the most malleable and ductile metal known and, therefore, is easy to work with to produce the desired object, a jewel or a segment of wire.
