ABSTRACT

Nanoparticles can be made from many di erent kinds of materials, including metals and semiconductors, with diameters ranging from as small as about 1 nm in diameter up to micrometers (Kwon and Hyeon 2008). When nanoparticles are smaller than 10 nm or so, they exhibit physical properties that di er from the bulk material (Alivisatos 1996). ese properties are size dependent and can be tuned to a signi cant extent by modifying the dimensions of the nanoparticles. Because their properties depend not only on their composition but also on their size, they represent a unique and interesting class of materials.
