ABSTRACT

SimCn (m = 1, 2) were produced via the laser-vaporization cluster beam technique.

en, gas-phase ion mobility measurements were carried out to examine the geometries of silicon-doped carbon cluster cations CnSi+ (n = 3-69) by Fye and Jarrold (1997). e observed isomers resemble those found for pure carbon clusters. is strong resemblance suggests that the silicon atom replaces a carbon atom with a minor impact on the structure. is result can be considered as the rst conclusive experimental evidence on the closed-cage nature of C2n−1Si+ fullerenes with an even number of atoms, the silicon atom being part of the cage. In the case of C2nSi+ fullerenes with an odd number of atoms, the silicon atom appeared to be exohedral.
