ABSTRACT

Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is a technique for improving the accuracy and precision of radiation therapy through the frequent acquisition of images in the treatment room (Dawson and Ja¢ray 2007; Balter and Cao 2007; Ja¢ray et al. 2007; Ja¢ray 2007; Xing et al. 2006). Ÿe IGRT is a critical tool in that it delivers highly conformal radiation therapy treatment plans that maximize the administered dose to the tumor while minimizing the dose to surrounding sensitive structures. Image-guided technologies assist us by providing accurate patient localization, distinct tumor visualization, and target volume veri£cation.
