ABSTRACT

Radiation therapy is a local-regional therapy that has an established and major role in the management of prostate cancer. Modern radiation therapy is a complex process employing advanced imaging techniques in patient immobilization, target determination, critical structure delineation, treatment plan veri£cation, target localization, and treatment assessment. Many clinical trials, including those carried out at Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC), have demonstrated that dose escalation with advanced radiation therapy techniques potentially increases the cure rate for prostate cancer, while keeping complicated risks at a reasonable level (Zelefsky et al. 1998; Hanks et al. 1998; Hanks 1999; Pollack et al. 2000; Pollack et al. 2002; Zietman et al. 2005; Peeters et al. 2006; Dearnaley et al. 2007).
