ABSTRACT

Since the range of applications of the oscillator is varied, so are the types of oscillators that serve these applications. For example, the proliferation of small, hand-held communication devices and their associated frequency bands, has created a demand for small, high performance oscillators operating in the 1-GHz to 6-GHz band, with future systems likely to require higher performance at higher frequencies. On the other extreme, advanced radars that detect slow moving targets in severe cluttered environment require extremely high spectral purity at frequencies ranging from about 10 GHz-35 GHz to cover radar frequency bands.
