ABSTRACT

Radiotherapy is an effective technique for treating localized cancer (Leibel et al. 2003). For radiation therapy, there are two primary treatment goals to achieve the effectiveness of therapy: target dose escalation and normal tissue sparing. The modern radiation therapy of cancers uses computerized treatment planning systems to design treatment delivery parameters that are patient specific. Individual treatment parameters are designed to collimate and direct radiation beams toward the target volume to avoid excessive radiation to organs at risk (OARs).
