ABSTRACT

Copper and copper alloys are used in a multitude of applications in architecture, electrical, electronics, telecommunications, and plumbing tube and ttings. ey have excellent corrosion resistance in most natural environments. However, under certain environmental conditions, copper and its alloys are impacted by issues associated with corrosion and materials degradation, resulting in reduced product lifetime and system failures. is chapter provides an overview of the current understanding related to environmental degradation of copper-failure modes, mechanisms, and mitigation strategies.
