ABSTRACT

This book has given an overview of the three main technologies that gave birth to the numerous product families one nds in the market today. Electrical incandescence, electrical gas discharges, and semiconductor light-emitting diodes are the three dominant technologies that have lit up our world for more than a century. e spread of electricity and the development of power grids, which started with Edison, changed the way we illuminate our surroundings and created a new industry. In this book, we examined each technology separately and presented dierent families of light sources belonging to each category. In every case, there were many advantages and disadvantages to be discussed and dierent applications that a lamp could serve.
