ABSTRACT

Visualization, generally speaking, is the art and science of conveying information to a human observer by means of an image; we already learned about the most important and widespread visualization techniques in medical imaging – windowing, which makes information hidden in the full intensity depth of the image visible, and reformatting, which allows for exploring a data cube or volume in arbitrary directions. However, when speaking about medical image processing, the beautiful and astonishing photorealistic images generated from volume data

often come to mind. Rendering is the core technology for generating these visualizations. In this chapter, we will learn about the most important rendering paradigms.
