ABSTRACT

Figure 6.1 shows all existing light sources and commercial lamps, which fall into three main technology families as introduced in the previous chapters: incandescent, discharge (plasma), and solid-state sources. Before opening the discussion on application, it is important to lter the various types of light sources as those with the greatest availability and circulation in the market can provide realistic and easy options for the readers. For this reason, two categorizations have been developed: primary (proposed for various applications) and secondary technologies (not included in the proposals). This chapter will begin with the former.
