ABSTRACT

In the brain, the most abundant proton species is from water, which resonates at a frequency of 4.7 ppm. To improve the detection of brain metabolites, which have concentrations that are orders of magnitude smaller than water, di‰erent methodologies are used to selectively suppress the signal from water. ere are many ways to accomplish this, but a commonly employed strategy is through the application of RF pulses centered on the resonance frequency of water protons with the aim of saturating and decreasing the signal from water.
