ABSTRACT

Pediatric anesthesia is a recognized subspecialty of anesthesia, requiring different skills and knowledge from adult anesthesia. In different countries and institutions, the upper age limit for pediatric patients can vary, usually between 14 and 18 years, but it is generally accepted that it is most important for infants and younger children to receive the specialist care of pediatric anesthetists for both physiological and psychological reasons, and to reduce the incidence of adverse events.
