ABSTRACT

Precise identification of an offending arthropod is extremely important in medical settings and may have far-reaching implications; for example, a person bitten by a nonvenomous spider does not need the expensive and intense treatments that a person bitten by a venomous one needs. Also, treatment recommendations for pubic lice differ radically from those for nymphal ticks in the pubic region (yet the two are often confused). Obviously, accurate identification is crucial from the outset.
