ABSTRACT

The masters thesis of Eric Wong [Wong 99] presents a method of generating a charcoal sketch portrait from a photograph. Using Wong's system the user is coached in the artistic process to identify and separate regions of the photograph. These regions are then "drawn in" using simulated charcoal pencil by the system. Jorg Hamel and Thomas Strothotte introduced techniques and tools for re-using the effort invested in lighting, shading and texturing a model for the rendering of other models [Hamel, Strothotte, 99].
