Assisting a User: Animation and Three-Dimensional Environments
Researchers have created tools and systems that assist both artists and non-artists in the process of creating animations. As discussed by Gassidy Curtis in his course notes from the 1999 SIGGRAPH Course on NonPhotorealistic Rendering, having the tools is simply not enough; it is how the tools are used that matters most. In making a non-photorealistic animation or three-dimensional environment, it is rarely sufficient to just add an NPR-look at the end of the process. If a project calls for an artistic look, it is essential that the look of the finished piece be considered at every step in the process.
