ABSTRACT

Those who have been predicting the demise of spatial technologies for some years must have been rather disappointed. This is mainly because they have failed to take into account the ability of technology to evolve and develop: just as they seem to offer no further scope for development, spatial technologies like GIS seem to ‘morph’ into something new and a whole new research landscape opens up for us. In this chapter, we will explore some of the newer areas of spatial technology that may continue to confound the pessimists and delight those who wish to develop new insights into the spatial structure of cultural remains.
