In which the Author gives an account of the City of Patana and its great trade and commerce

[337/1] If the opinions of the false Heathendom of old were more founded on fact than on high-sounding tales, we might, with good reason, suppose that the God who was the son of Jupiter and Maya ¹ used to live most of his days in the City of Patana, and that, occupied with the enormous quantity and variety of merchandise in the town, he had been wont to preside at the consistories of the persistent trader, for the city was full of such people who collected, from every part of Asia, at its never-ending marts.
