ABSTRACT

[415/1] Having, in the previous chapter, given a detailed account of the Principalities and Provinces subject to the Mogol Monarchy, it is now necessary, in order to fulfil my promise to the curious but critical Reader, to give a description of its riches, in order that he may thereby obtain a more complete idea [415/2] of the whole subject. And although I could, from what I myself saw, generally vouch for these wonderful riches and for much else about which I shall write on this subject, yet, in order to be more certain of my details and more accurate, I shall follow the book hitherto quoted, and also the general opinion, such as I heard it, from certain eunuchs, ministers, and officials [416/1] of the Agra Treasury itself. 1
