ABSTRACT

[386/1] I had spent fourteen 1 months in the Philipines when the season of the monsoon arrived, and a good Pataxe was prepared for the voyage to Macan. It belonged to one Gaspar Borjes de Fonseca 2 of that City, who had come to the Philipines from Camboja, and was only awaiting the monsoon; so on its arrival he decided, as I have said, to sail. The Governor, Don Sebastian Urtado de Corcuera y Mendoza, desired that I should sail by it, and sent for me. He entrusted me with dispatches for Spain and also for the Sumbanco, King of Macassar, and the Mataran, 3 Emperor of the Javas, greater and lesser. 3a He also gave me instructions as to the route I was to follow. As all was ready and the Captain of the vessel, by name Juan de Mora, 4 had been summoned, I had nothing to do but proceed to the port of Cabite. 4a
