ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will look at some general advice on how to deal with complex, long and demanding texts as well as older texts, i.e. texts that do not use the typical language one would encounter in modern day writing. Much of this advice focuses on reading for academic purposes, i.e. reading research monographs or journal articles written in German, but can be adapted to other purposes, such as those that journalists or novelists might have when researching background material for their work or reading material in German for pleasure.
